We Are Living Through an Exceptional Moment in Human History.

By Fidel Castro Ruz

September 15, 2010
"Information Clearing House" -- "Cuba Debate" -- Sep 10, 2010 -- The deadlines established by the United Nations Security Council for Iran to yield to the demands imposed by the United States regarding nuclear research and uranium enrichment for medical purposes and to generate electricity will be expiring in these days.

This is the only nuclear use that has been documented in Iran.

The fear that Iran is looking forward to producing nuclear weapons is only based on an assumption.

With regard to this delicate issue, the United States and its western allies, among them two of the five nuclear powers with veto power -France and the United Kingdom- supported by the richest and most developed capitalist powers of the world, have promoted an increasing number of sanctions against Iran, a rich, oil-producing Muslim country. Today, the measures adopted include the inspection of Iran’s merchant vessels and severe economic sanctions aimed at suffocating its economy.

I have been following very closely the grave dangers that may result from that situation, because if a war breaks out in that region, it could very quickly go nuclear, and this will have lethal consequences for the rest of the planet.

In referring to such danger I was not looking for publicity or sensationalism. I just wanted to warn the world public opinion hoping that, being advised of such grave danger it could contribute to avoid it.

At least we have managed to draw attention to a problem that was hardly mentioned by the big world media.

This has made me use part of the time scheduled for the launching of this book, on which we worked diligently. I did not want this to coincide with the dates of September 7 and 9. September 7 marks the end of the 90 days term established by the Security Council to know whether Iran complied or not with the requirement of authorizing the inspection of its merchant vessels. September 9 marks the expiration of the three months term fixed by the Resolution adopted on June 9. Quite possibly the establishment of this last term was what the Security Council intended to do originally.

So far we have only had the weird statement made by the Director General of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), the Japanese Yukiya Amano, a man who serves the interests of the Yankees. He added all the fuel to the flames and then, like Pontius Pilate, he washed his hands of the issue.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Ministry of Iran commented his statements with a well earned contempt. According to a news report published by EFE, Amano’s assertion that “‘our friends should not worry, because we don’t believe our region is in the position to engage in new military adventures’ and that ‘Iran was fully prepared to respond to any military invasion’ was an obvious reference to the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, ‘who warned about a possible Israeli nuclear attack against Iran with the support of the United States’”.

News on this topic are pouring and get mixed with others of remarkable repercussion.

The journalist Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic magazine, already known by our people, has been publishing some excerpts of the long interview he made me. He has been discussing some interesting aspects of it before he finally writes a future and long article.

“There were many odd things about my recent Havana stopover, [...]“, he wrote, but one of the most unusual was Fidel Castro’s level of self-reflection [...] but it seemed truly striking that Castro was willing to admit that he misplayed his hand at a crucial moment in the Cuban Missile Crisis [...] that he regrets asking Khrushchev to nuke the U.S.” It is true that he addressed the topic and he asked me that question. Literally, as he wrote in the first part of his report, his words were the following: “I asked him: At a certain point it seemed logical for you to recommend that the Soviets bomb the U.S. Does what you recommended still seem logical now?” He answered: “After I’ve seen what I’ve seen, and knowing what I know now, it wasn’t worth it all.”

I had thoroughly explained to him -and there is written evidence of that- the content of that message: “…if the United States invades Cuba, a country with Russian nuclear weapons, under such circumstances Russia should not allow to be dealt the first strike, as the one dealt against the USSR on June 22, 1941, when the German army and all European forces attacked the USSR.”

As can be observed from that brief reference to the issue, from the second part of his report to the audience on that news, readers could not realize that “if the United States invaded Cuba, a country with Russian nuclear weapons”, under such circumstances, my recommendation was to prevent the enemy from launching the first strike; nor the profound irony embedded in my response - “…and knowing what I know now…”, which was an obvious reference to the betrayal by one Russian President who saturated himself with some ethylic substance and revealed to the United States the most important military secrets of that country.

Further on Goldberg wrote about another moment of our conversation: “I asked him if he believed the Cuban model was still something worth exporting.” Obviously, that question implicitly suggested the theory that Cuba exported the Revolution. So I responded: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore”. I said this to him without any bitterness or concern. And now I laugh at the way he literally interpreted what I said and how, according to him, he consulted it with Julia Sweig, a CFR analyst who accompanied him and worked out the theory he described. But the truth is that the meaning of my response was exactly the opposite of the interpretation made by both American journalists of the Cuban model.

My idea, as everybody knows, is that the capitalist system does not work anymore either for the United States or the world, which jumps from one crisis into the next, and these are ever more serious, global and frequent and there is no way the world could escape from them. How could such a system work for a socialist country like Cuba?

Many Arab friends worried when they knew I had met with Goldberg, and sent some messages describing him as “the staunchest advocate of Zionism.”

From all of these we can infer the big confusion that exists in the world. Therefore I hope that what I am telling you about my thoughts could be useful.

The ideas I expressed are contained in 333 Reflections -see what a coincidence. The last 26 refer exclusively to the problems affecting the environment and the imminent danger of a nuclear war.

And now I should very briefly add something.

I have always condemned the Holocaust. I my Reflections entitled “Obama’s Speech in Cairo”, “A Swipe Waiting to Happen”, and “The Opinion of an Expert” I expressed this very clearly.

I have never been an enemy of the Jewish people, which I admire for having resisted dispersion and persecution during two thousand years. Many of the most brilliant talents, such as Karl Marx and Albert Einstein, were Jews, because that was a nation where the most intelligent managed to survive by virtue of a natural law. In our country and in the whole world they were persecuted and slandered. But this is just pat of the ideas I defend.

They were not the only one who were persecuted and slandered for their beliefs. Muslims were attacked and persecuted for their beliefs by the European Christians for much more than 12 centuries, just as the first Christians were in ancient Rome before Christianity became an official religion of that empire. History should be accepted and remembered just the way it happened, with all its tragic realities and its fierce wars. I have spoken about that and that is why I have all the more reason to explain the dangers jeopardizing humankind today, when wars have become the biggest suicide risk for our fragile species.

If we add to this a war against Iran, even if it were of a conventional nature, the United States would rather turn off the light and say goodbye. How could the US put up with a war against 1.5 million Muslims?

For any true revolutionary, defending peace does not mean to renounce to the principles of justice, without which human life and society would be meaningless.

I still believe that Goldberg is an excellent journalist who is able to set out, in an enjoyable way and masterly way, his views, which promotes debate. He does not invent phrases; he transfers them and interprets them.

I will not refer to the content of many others aspects of our conversation. I will respect the secrecy of the issues we discussed and I eagerly await his future long article.

The current news that have started to pour from all sources make me to complement his presentation with these words whose essence is contained in the book “La contraofensiva estratégica” (The Strategic Counteroffensive), which I have just presented.

I believe that all peoples have the right to peace and enjoy all the goods and natural resources of the planet. What is currently going on with peoples in many countries of Africa, where there are millions of emaciated children, women and men out of lack of food, water and medicines is a shame. We feel astonished by the images we see from the Middle East, where Palestinians are deprived from their lands, their homes are demolished by gigantic equipment, and men, women and children are bombed with white phosphorus and other extermination means; the Dantesque scenes of families exterminated by the bombs dropped over Afghan and Pakistani towns by drones; the Iraqis who are dying after years of war; and the more than one million lives lost in that conflict imposed by a US President.

The last we could expect to see were the news about the expulsion of the French gypsies, who are victims of a new sort of racial Holocaust. The strong protest by the French is only logical. At the same time, the millionaires restrict French citizens’ rights to retirement while reducing the possibilities to get a job.

From the US we have heard the news of a pastor in Florida that intends to burn the Holy Book of the Quran in its own church. Even the Yankee and military chiefs engaged in punitive war missions were disturbed by the news which they believed would put their soldiers in jeopardy.

Walter Martínez, the prestigious journalist who conducts the Venezuelan TV program Dossier, was amazed at such madness.

Yesterday, Thursday 9th in the evening, some news asserted that the pastor had relinquished his idea. It might be necessary to know what the FBI agents who visited him told him to “persuade him”. That was a colossal media show, a chaos. Those are things proper of an empire that is sinking.

I thank all of you for your attention.

The Boot That Stamps On Your Face

False footprint of history misleads
our brains, destroys our lives

"Whoever controls the volume of money in our country is absolute master of all industry and commerce, and when you realize that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate."--James A. Garfield, 20th U.S. president, two weeks before he was assassinated in 1881.

This is the fact we can't get straight.

One side - one entity, one organization - funds BOTH sides in all the wars.

Failure to comprehend this one stark truth has diminished human life beyond comprehension. For openers, it has cost millions of human lives throughout the 20th century and into the 21st in the form of wars that were cynically fomented to mask the massive robberies of other countries. And all of them - every single one - has been manipulated into being, not for geopolitical or philosophical purposes, but for robbery, pure and simple. All done under some patriotic rubric and all done by the same bunch, money controllers of that certain stripe whose name it is not permitted to mention in that society they call polite.

The way to see that picture of one central controlling financial octopus slithering down through history with backroom bribes and secret assassinations is to take the core syllabus of Eustace Mullins and Archibald Maule Ramsay, edit it, and lay it out like an outline.

1645: Portuguese Jewish bankers in Holland Solomon de Medina and Fernando Carvajal secretly fund Oliver Cromwell to readmit the Jews to England, where they had been banished for loansharking for almost 400 years. This drama leads to the killing of the king, the debauching of Ireland, and the capture of the British treasury by the Jews, which is why the [Rothschild] City of London is the power center of the world today.

1791: The great liberation - peace, freedom and brotherhood. Run secretly by Jewish bankers inside British intelligence, the French overthrew their corrupt and bankrupt king by burning churches and slaughtering each other in the streets while the newly powerful Rothschild dynasty paraded one murderous puppet after another and completely erased the heroic history of the Gauls that had made France an empire. Today France has a Jewish president who reportedly works for the CIA. [Controlled by the Israeli Mossad]

1917: A trainload of Jews from Brooklyn carrying $40 million in gold bullion steamed across Europe and wound up occupying 363 of the 388 seats in the new Bolshevik assembly after these humanitarian Jewish revolutionaries cut up the czar and his family into little pieces and burned them. You may not have noticed, but these are the people in charge of the United States now. [MM: YES, I have noticed!!!]

1945: Hitler had been assisted in his drive to power by notable U.S. interests, whose descendents were to include future U.S. presidents. It was all part of a long-range plan to have a second German war, but more than that, it was a perfect example of how the international money machine was funding both sides in the same conflict, for the obvious purpose of making money off the consumption of weaponry, armaments, and the other amenities of war.

1967: Nelson Rockefeller smiles in Moscow while delivering trucks to the USSR, who forwarded them to North Vietnam, where they were used to kill American troops.

2010: Al Qaida shows up as designated enemy all over the world. Invented by Zbigniew Brzezinski after he recruited the Mujaheddin to drive the Russians out of Afghanistan, the created terrorist group was really a list, a data base, of Arab thugs who could be bought and used as double agents. Although a cynical fiction, this "base" was blamed for the 9/11 attack, and used to justify wars all over the world. It was the creation of "the perfect enemy," one which could never be caught because it did not really exist, except as a department of the Jewish intelligence agencies.

Many other entries of salient significance could be added to this list, but for purposes of comprehension and future use, this pattern, this syllabus, should be used to illustrate and verify the secret political pattern that has dominated the world since the Age of Enlightenment, the time of Shakespeare, a period of almost 400 years.

These other entries might include:

* 1815: Nathan Rothschild's capture of the British money exchange after the battle of Waterloo, in which France's Napoleon was defeated by Britain's Wellington, and Rothschild increased his fortune by a factor of 5000 by misrepresenting the outcome. The founder of this Rothschild dynasty that has controlled the world for 200 years began when Nathan's father killed the 25-year-old Prince William of Hesse and stole his fortune.

* 1847: At a wedding in London, Britain's Jewish PM Benjamin Disraeli, inventor of the term Zionism, told James and Lionel Rothschild that the U.S. would be divided into two parts: the north for James and the South for Lionel. That next year came the Worldwide Jewish Revolution of 1848, when revolutions occurred in every country in the world and the organization later known as B'nai Brith hooked its financial tentacles into literally every corner of the world. That was the year Marx wrote the Communist manifesto.

* 1913: German Jewish banker Paul Warburg ramrodded the Federal Reserve Act and the Income Tax through a paid-off Congress, and World War I, finally with enough money to build the weapons of war, introduced an era where permanent, continuous war would become a financial necessity simply to pay the armies it had created.

* 1932: Hitler did not have the money to seriously prepare for war until he sent his Jewish lawyer Rosenberg to London to enlist the help of American industrialists to fund the Nazi war machine. Shortly thereafter, America declared a bankruptcy it has never resolved, and also confiscated all the gold in the country.

Even today as high-tech sadists use weather wars to destabilize enemy countries and oppress the populations into grateful submission, we see in the pattern of the world that is being formed before our eyes the same basic falsehood that has been perpetrated on the public these last four centuries - that it is countries who are fighting each other, whereas really it has been clever bankers establishing institutions and manipulating situations to make it appear these countries needed to be fighting each other, when in fact the only reason for these wars was to make money, usually by stealing things.

So when I hear people talking about Republicans and Democrats,

or this celebrity or that, I kind of shut it all out now, because I know

the real news is really taking place on another level. It does us no good to understand the parliamentary blather that accomplishes certain

tasks, as long as we don't know what the original orders are from the bankers to the politicians. Understanding what passes for political news in mainstream media (in any era) guarantees that you DON'T understand the real forces at play.

The testament of suppressed history from Mullins, Ramsay and other forgotten martyrs to the cause of truth clearly shows a master plan that has survived and prospered down through history. This dominant force has profoundly diminished our lives through regimentation and hypocrisy, not to mention unleashing the nastiest plagues ever known to man and killing people for fun, just because they like blood.

Most importantly, now is the time to clearly identify this potentially fatal influence on world society, because not to do so guarantees no problem of meaningful significance will ever be solved, because the underlying, motivational forces of them remain undiscussed. It's impossible to really know anything under these circumstances. And that's where the public remains today - permanently in the dark.

Lastly, in the study of human nature, let us remember our traditions are descended from the seed of Abraham, the famous banker who sold his wife to Pharoah and begat a tradition of sabotaging other countries by stealth that venerated blood ties over honesty, and righteous murder over the compassion they pretended to preach.

If we are to have a future that involves individual liberty, understanding the nature of the boot on our faces is the most important thing to know.

Wall Street Banks Committing Widespread Mortgage Foreclosure Fraud

A recent string of rulings show that the courts are finally starting to crack down on widespread rampant fraud used by Wall Street banks to foreclose on homeowners.

The wall Street Journal reports on two such cases in the article Judge Bashes Bank in Foreclosure Case.

A Florida state-court judge, in a rare ruling, said a major national bank perpetrated a “fraud” in a foreclosure lawsuit, raising questions about how banks are attempting to claim homes from borrowers in default.

The ruling, made last month in Pasco County, Fla., comes amid increased scrutiny of foreclosures by the prosecutors and judges in regions hurt by the recession. Judges have said in hearings they are increasingly concerned that banks are attempting to seize properties they don’t own.

Judge Tepper, who ruled on the matter, investigated the documents filed by the lawyer representing U.S bank in 2007 claiming the bank owned the mortgage but found it was impossible for the documents to have been prepared until 2008.

The Judge Tepper wrote in the ruling that “”did not exist at the time of the filing of this action…was subsequently created and… fraudulently backdated, in a purposeful, intentional effort to mislead” and subsequently she dismissed the case.

The Wall Street Journals also reports that U.S Bank has recently withdrawn several other foreclosures that were found to have the same or similar problems.

According to the article judges across the nation have found fraudulent documents being submitted by banks and their representatives which has led to an ongoing criminal probe in Florida.

The report states that the ruling was a backlash against law firms that are running what are know as foreclosure mills across the nation using a cookie cutter process that Judge Tepper calls “fraught with potential for fraud”.

The article mentions an unrelated matter heard last week in which a GMAC tried submitting an affidavit claiming GMAC owned the mortgage but submitted no other proof of ownership.

“I don’t have any confidence that any of the documents the Court’s receiving on these mass foreclosures are valid,” the judge said at the hearing.

Personally I find it ironic that when GM was on its ass it held its hand out to taxpayers for a bailout.

But now that the company is back on its feet again here they are submitting fraudulent documents to kick taxpayers out of their homes.

Zero Hedge points to a similar ruling finding that JPMorgan, Chase and WAMU committed fraud.

Wall Street Banks Commit Mortgage Foreclosure Fraud

Wall Street Banks Commit Mortgage Foreclosure Fraud

The judge in that case discovered that JPMorgan, Chase and WAMU submitted fraudulent documents showing they owned the mortgage in question and thus the had the right to foreclose on the home.

The courts found that the mortgage was really owned by Fannie Mae, a Federal Government institution who also held out its hand for taxpayer bailout money.

Again JPMorgan and Fannie Mae both held out their hands for taxpayer bailout money.

Even worse a behind the scenes shotgun wedding by the Federal Government and JPMorgan ripped off billions of dollars from WAMU bond and stock investors during the 2008 financial crisis.

The Feds basically told investors to bend over when the forced WAMU into JPMorgan ownership and bypassed bankruptcy proceedings that would have allowed creditors access to WAMU assets to recover their investment losses.

JPMorgan Brings Foreclosure Case In Mortgage In Which It Was Just A Servicer, Court Finds Bank Committed Fraud

An interesting development out of Jean Johnson, Circuit Judge in Duval Country, Florida, where in a case filed by JPMorgan/WaMu, as Plaintiff, and law firm of Shapiro and Fishman, attempted to evict defendants Hank and Marilyn Pocopanni.

As basis for the legal case, WaMu had submitted an assignment of mortgage, which however the court just found never actually belonged to WaMu, and instead was carried on the books of Fannie Mae.

Once this was uncovered is where this case gets really interesting: In point 5 of the filing we read that the “plaintiff predecessor counsel made “clerical errors” when it represented to the Court that the plaintiff was the owner and holder of the note and mortgage rather than the servicer for the owner.”

Which means that only Fannie had the right to foreclose upon the Pocopannis, yet JPM, as servicer, decided to take that liberty itself.

And here the Judge got really angry: “The court finds WAMU, with the assistance of its previous counsel, Shapiro and Fishman, submitted the assignment when [they] knew that only Fannie Mae was entitled to foreclose on the Mortgage, and that WAMU never owned or held the note and Mortgage.”

And, oops, “the Court finds by clear and convincing evidence that WAMU, Chase and Shapiro & Fishman committed fraud on this Court” and that these “acts committed by WAMU, Chase and Shapiro amount to a “knowing deception intended to prevent the defendants from discovery essential to defending the claim” and are therefore fraud.

While the Judge in this case did not also find declaratory damages against the plaintiff, and while the case of the defendants is unclear (we would expect Fannie to file a foreclosure act on its own soon enough), the question of just how pervasive this form of “fraud” in the judicial system is certainly relevant.

Because if JPM takes the liberty of foreclosing on mortgages as merely servicer, when it has no legal ground for such an action, who knows how many such cases the legal system is currently clogged up with.

The implications for the REO and foreclosures track for banks could be dire as a result of this ruling, as this could severely impact the ongoing attempt by banks to hide as much excess inventory in their books in the quietest way possible.

Our advice to any party caught in a foreclosure process is to immediately go to www.fnma.com and use the Lookup Tool to see if Fannie is still mortgage owner of record, if a foreclosure suit has been brought up by a plaintiff other than the GSE.

We are confident quite a few other such cases will promptly appear.

In related news from the corporate media, which of course fails to mention the rampant foreclosure fraud while painting a rosy picture of the Feds doing all they can to help, US homes lost to foreclosure up 25 pct on year.

OS ANGELES – Lenders took back more homes in August than in any month since the start of the U.S. mortgage crisis.

The increase in home repossessions came even as the number of properties entering the foreclosure process slowed for the seventh month in a row, foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac Inc. said Thursday.

In all, banks repossessed 95,364 properties last month, up 3 percent from July and an increase of 25 percent from August 2009, RealtyTrac said.

August makes the ninth month in a row that the pace of homes lost to foreclosure has increased on an annual basis. The previous high was in May.

Banks have been stepping up repossessions to clear out their backlog of bad loans with an eye on eventually placing the foreclosed properties on the market, but they can’t afford to simply dump the properties on the market.

More than 2.3 million homes have been repossessed by lenders since the recession began in December 2007, according to RealtyTrac. The firm estimates more than 1 million American households are likely to lose their homes to foreclosure this year.

In all, 338,836 properties received a foreclosure-related warning in August, up 4 percent from July, but down 5 percent from the same month last year, RealtyTrac said. That translates to one in 381 U.S. homes.

Rounding out the top 10 states with the highest foreclosure rate in August were: Florida, Arizona, California, Idaho, Utah, Georgia, Michigan, Illinois and Hawaii.

Casey's Energy Guru: Today's Hottest Energy Plays

Marin Katusa, an accomplished investment analyst, is the senior editor of Casey’s Energy Opportunities, Casey’s Energy Confidential, and Casey’s Energy Report. He left a successful teaching career to pursue analyzing and investing in junior resource companies. In addition, he is a regular commentator on BNN and a member of the Vancouver Angel Forum where he and his colleagues evaluate early seed investment opportunities. Marin also manages a portfolio of international real estate projects. Using advanced mathematical skills, he has created a diagnostic resource market tool that analyzes and compares hundreds of investment variables. Through his own investments, Marin has established a network of relationships with many of the key players in the junior resource sector in Vancouver.

L: Today, we turn to one of the more interesting – and colorful – characters on our team, Marin Katusa. Marin’s bio neglects to mention that he is also the lead singer of a rock band called Era Flair. Why should investors listen to a guy who wears leather pants and plays an electric guitar? Because he’s a bloody genius, that’s why – and he’s dialed into these markets like no one else. So, Marin, what’s hot and how do you make money on energy today?

Marin: First, you have to realize that the energy sector is different from the metals and mining you focus on, Louis. Anywhere in the world, the copper you mine is just copper, and the gold you refine is gold. But take coal as an example. It’s not just coal – there are many different types: premium metallurgical coal; semi-hard coking coal; semi-soft coking coal; and even among the thermal coals – the cheap stuff you burn to make electricity – there are different categories that produce different amounts of ash, among other variables.

So, just because you have a coal deposit, that doesn’t mean you have a buyer who can use your coal.

L: Ah. Someone may have a power station nearby, but it’s not designed to burn the specific kind of coal you have… And the power station that can use it is too far away to make it economic to ship the coal there?

Marin: Exactly. Copper costs dollars per pound, but coal costs dollars per ton, so if you don’t have cheap rail nearby, or a user on site, you got nothin’. There are similar constraints on the natural gas business. You can’t just study the commodities, you have to study the markets from top to bottom, and often that means understanding the local users and forecasting their probable demand.

L: Even oil isn’t just one thing, right?

Marin: Right. There’s heavy and light, and refineries designed to process one type cannot handle the other. Proximity to pipelines and shipping is important too. So you really have to understand the characteristics of each type of each energy commodity, the logistics of getting these commodities to market, and the various end users’ differing needs.

L: A quick aside – are you looking at thorium plays? There seems to be some buzz on the street these days about thorium.

Marin: We’ve been following the thorium markets for five years now, and there is some buzz going around, so we’re working on a special report on the subject that should be out soon.

L: Can you give us a sneak preview?

Marin: It’s even more like what I was saying about the coal markets than uranium. You have to know who your end user is going to be. There was a Bloomberg article recently that suggested that the Obama administration could switch from uranium to thorium. But it’s not so easy; they are not the same thing, and there are trillions of dollars of infrastructure that would have to be changed over. Who’s the end user who’s ready to use your thorium? You have to know, or you have no project, whatever today’s price per pound might be.

L: Okay. So how do you make money across such diverse subsectors of the energy market?

Marin: By being very careful. Not only do you have a lot of homework to do.

L: When you were a professor, were you one of the ones who gave kids a lot of homework?

Marin: Hey, I didn’t make the markets this way, I’m just telling you what you have to do if you want to make money in them. And you can’t just let yourself get swept away by whatever the flavor of the day is, be it thorium, or coal, or what-have-you.

In fact, starting a few months ago, I was on BNN, telling viewers that certain coal companies that were currently very much in favor were overpriced.

Now, I do like coal, in the right company with the right market. The U.S. currently gets 50% of its power from coal-fired plants, so companies with deposits that can feed those plants are very interesting. But some of those metallurgical coal companies – they produce coal for making steel – were trading at over 25 x earnings. They were good companies, but that P/E implies an expectation of doubled production, or a three-fold increase in earnings, and that would be very difficult to deliver in short order.

L: Those are pretty high expectations.

Marin: The market really likes energy commodities right now. Money is flowing and wants to land in stocks of companies that are doing the right things. But I said to stay away from these stocks, even though the companies were good companies, because the market was simply overvaluing them. And in the last few months, they’ve corrected 40%.

L: Good call

Marin: The show’s host knows me, so he knew I wasn’t just looking for things to stay away from. He asked what my top pick at the time was, and I answered Cline Mining (T.CMK) but said that I hadn’t done my due diligence on the ground yet. Unfortunately, the stock shot up 80% after I mentioned it, so we didn’t end up recommending it. That just goes to show you how bullish the markets really want to be right now. If there’s any kind of good reason to expect a stock to do well, it’ll take off. So, I’ve narrowed things down to “best of breed” within each sector – that’s all I’m interested in right now. I think I’ve got such picks staked out in geothermal power, coal, and uranium. That’s what we’re going to be focusing on over the next two months in Casey’s Energy Report, especially in coal.

L: If you were right about those specific companies correcting, and they dropped 40%, did you make money shorting them?

Marin: Someone else might have, but not us. We don’t recommend shorting in the newsletter – it’s for retail investors, many of whom are not prepared to make short trades, nor to deal with the extra risks associated with them. When you short, you have to be right about more than which way a stock is headed; you have to time it right. If you make the right call, but your timing is off…

L: You still lose money.

Marin: Right.

L: So, there’s no one sector of the overall energy market that really floats your boat these days; it’s all about picking the gems out from the gravel?

Marin: Yes, that’s what I’m focusing on, not just for the newsletters, but for the funds I manage as well. I believe that if you invest in “best of sector” companies, you’ll be rewarded very handsomely, come what may in volatility along the way.

L: Can you give us an example? Or would that be giving too much away?

Marin: No problem. In the geothermal sector, there’s one stock I think is almost a textbook example of a great energy speculation. I’ve been out to inspect their operations in the field, I’ve met with management numerous times over the years, and now I’m making a big, big investment in it. The company is Nevada Geothermal Power (V.NGP, OB.NGLPF).

L: I remember covering them before we split the energy newsletter from the metals newsletter. It was always a good story, but the stock never seemed to take off. Why do you think it will now?

Marin: They’ve spent the last ten years building their plant – the largest geothermal plant built in the U.S. in the last ten years, and in Nevada, 25 years. They get tax credits for green energy and have power purchase agreements (PPAs) in place that give the project quantifiable value. This thing is so undervalued now, even by Graham & Dodd type analysis. It should be trading at about 94 cents a share, just for the existing assets and cash, but it’s trading around 50 cents. It could almost double, and you’d still get all the company’s exploration upside for free.

L: Sounds like a gem to me.

Marin: It is – it’s the only geothermal company we own in our fund. Do you remember the Casey conference last September, in Denver, when Ross Beaty was plugging his geothermal company, Magma Energy (T.MXY), and I said that it was a great company, but that it was overvalued at the C$2.00 price range it was trading at, at the time?

L: I remember. You had Ross and Rick Rule and Bob Bishop and Lukas Lundin there.

Marin: Yep. I told the audience to be patient and they’d be able to buy the stock under C$1.50, and they all said I was wrong, that the company was adding value and heading higher, but it did drop below C$1.50.

L: It’s close to a buck now, Canadian.

Marin: Right – so people need to be cautious. You can’t rush in, even when the story is great and has someone as phenomenally successful as Ross Beaty behind it. There are lots of fund managers out there who get paid based on realized gains, which means they get in and get out very quickly. Those are big positions, so this can put selling pressure on even the best stories. If you’re patient and really do your due diligence to determine what price it makes sense to buy at, and then wait for the market to come to you, you’ll do well.

L: Sounds good. But what would you say to our readers who’ve been seeing Doug calling for The Greater Depression and all our other bearish calls on the economy, and who agree with our analysis, but who’ve seen energy commodities decline when the economy slows down? They might be reluctant to invest in energy now, and how could anyone who thinks the global economy’s in trouble blame them?

Marin: Generally speaking, that caution is bang on target. Oil in particular is ripe for correction, as there are huge speculative positions in that market.

L: What do you mean?

Marin: Right now, in the U.S., China, and in certain countries in Europe, supplies are at all-time highs. Production is still going great, the pipelines are running at capacity, and not only are the onshore storage facilities running at capacity, the offshore tankers and such are as well. There’s even something Dr. Bustin and I discovered that we call the “invisible U.S. gas supply.”

L: How’s that?

Marin: Because of the way the new fracking technology works, there are thousands of wells that are basically being used as storage facilities. These resources don’t need to be put into production when they are tapped – they can be brought online in just a couple of days, so the companies can sit on them until they need them. It’s like a giant natural storage facility.

Meanwhile, all these funds looking for good investments have figured out that oil is one of them – and it is, but they’ve driven the prices higher than the supply and demand justify. We’ve calculated that the current price of a barrel of oil includes about $15 to $20 due to speculation alone.

L: So, the price of oil could drop by that much in a day or two, if the winds changed and these speculators decided to exit the market?

Marin: Yes. Think about what happened in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. There went 25% of the U.S.’s domestic oil supply – boom, offline in a day. Now, normally, you’d expect to see the price of oil to increase, right? The supply drops, so the price rises. Basic economics. But it didn’t – it corrected almost 20% in that week. That tells me there were a lot of speculators in the field, and they panicked and got out. There’s just no other reason for the price to drop when supply became constrained.

L: So… How do you pick oil companies in such an environment?

Marin: We use $45 oil. If a company can’t make solid profits at $45 a barrel, we stay away. There are a lot of companies making good net-backs – the difference between their cost of production and the realized price per barrel – at $80 oil, but those margins dwindle, or turn negative, at lower prices. So, to see the true strength and value of an oil company, we use a much lower oil price. We’ve done very well in the newsletter, even on the bigger companies, using $45 oil as our yardstick for best of sector.

L: And if there is a big correction in the energy sector, you average down?

Marin: Right. The need for energy isn’t going away, and profitable companies on sale will make for spectacular investments at that time. For example, our oil-sands pick is definitely the best of sector. It’s not only the lowest-cost producer in the sector – oil sands being the largest source of unconventional oil in the world right now – but it has excellent growth potential. But we recommended waiting for a correction, telling subscribers to buy only under a certain price.

L: I imagine the company loved that.

Marin: We get a lot of heat for our “buy under” recommendations, just as you do, but we don’t work for the companies, we work for our subscribers. And in this case, we had to wait four months for our price guidance to be met, but the market did come to us, and our subscribers got in at much lower prices. That’s the beauty of it – it really works.

I like to tell investors that if they feel like they’ve missed the boat, they’ve missed the boat. You don’t buy a ticket after the boat’s left shore, you wait for the next one.

L: [Laughs] If you miss the boat, there’s no point in jumping; you’ll just get wet.

Marin: [Laughs] That’s right. You’ll just drown.

L: Anything new and exciting in the business?

Marin: I think tapping into new sources of unconventional oil and gas will continue spreading, especially into India and Asia. You know, we were the first research team to write about European shale gas. That’s become a big story now, but we beat the Merrill Lynches of the world to it. I think we’ll see more of that. Closer to home, depending on how the elections go in the U.S., I think American geothermal plays could become very hot.

I see a big consolidation coming in the geothermal sector. There are big players here, multi-billion-dollar companies, but they’re all private. You can’t play that way, but you can buy the up-and-coming companies they are likely to take over, like NGP and the others we follow.

Just remember to be very careful. These are speculative markets – the only money you should have in them is your high-risk money. And when you see solid gains, take profits and reduce your risk. To stay in this game, you need to recover your initial capital and add to it as you go, not risk it on dangerous “double or nothing” type bets.

L: Understood. Well, thanks a lot – some great insight into how to play the energy sector in today’s market environment.

The Hate Mongers Among Us — First in a 4-part series

Hate we’re told is the face of evil seen in plumes of smoke and ash on 911. Yet hate also serves a purpose for those adept at catalyzing conflicts.

Credit Image: Sabbah Report

Hate is a harsh word. As the counterpoint to love, hate reigns supreme among those emotions that the faith traditions seek to expunge from the human heart.

Hate we’re told is the face of evil seen in plumes of smoke and ash on 911. Yet hate also serves a purpose for those adept at catalyzing conflicts.

In the aftermath of that horrific event, hate we’re assured is a desired emotional state. Yet induced hate led us into two unwinnable wars. Hate may yet take us into Iran. Or Pakistan.

That hate is also bankrupting us both financially and psychologically.

This 4-part series identifies those who induce us to hate—and describes how.

1. The Hate Mongers Among Us

2. Signs of a Rift with Israel?

3. The Use of Pliable and Reliable Assets to Advance a Narrative

4. Staying on Message to Advance a Narrative

As the “how” of hate mongering becomes transparent, its common source will become apparent. With transparency comes accountability. That’s when you can watch for hate to emerge yet again to shield those who hide behind the toxic charge of “anti-Semitism.”

With the shared knowledge of how hate is evoked and sustained, those provoked to hate can say with confidence “Never Again” to those complicit in inducing this evil.

Timing is Everything

Hate can be personal or geopolitical. Those who induced us to war in the Middle East made it personal. The murderous provocation of 911 was emotionally wrenching and intensely personal. As a people, our gut reaction ensured that support for the war would become widespread.

In the aftermath of that mass murder on U.S. soil, Martin Peretz, editor of The New Republic, summed up the situation: “We are all Israelis now.”

So now we can all be persuaded to hate Muslims—even if we’ve never met one.

The shared mental environment was flooded with what then seemed like plausible justifications for the invasion of Iraq: Iraqi WMD; Iraqi ties to Al Qaeda; Iraqi meetings with Al Qaeda in Prague; Iraqi mobile biological weapons laboratories; Iraqi purchases of yellowcake uranium from Niger.

We now know that all those rationales were fixed around a preset agenda. Yet a critical mass of false beliefs sufficed to take us to war. For those skilled at inducing hate, consensus beliefs need not be true, they need only be credible—and only for a limited time.

With a corrupt consensus ruling the day, anyone offering proof that Iraq was not a threat was dismissed as unpatriotic or soft on terrorism.

This 911-prompted hate fest started with Iraq, a former ally, as a U.S.-led invasion kicked off The Clash of Civilizations. The bravado of “bring ‘em on” quickly became “shock and awe” as a vicious invasion was pursued with a relaxed “Aw Shucks” attitude supported with a media campaign comprised of photo ops of a commander-in-chief nonchalantly clearing brush at his home in Crawford, Texas.

Brand America became “We’re still the world’s biggest and baddest in the war-waging business. Just you watch.”

And watch us go broke as America led an Atlantic coalition that, like Israel, alienated much of the Muslim world.

An Invalid War

Plus there’s another strategic problem: our reason for invading Iraq was “invalid.” That’s the assessment of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. He should know. After the invasion, the invalid storyline quickly shifted to “Saddam the Evil Doer” as our rationale.

How can the rationale be invalid? If we’re all Israelis now, surely that entitles us to invade lands belonging to Muslims, kill them, transform them into refugees and, with impunity, create widespread outrage among the broader Muslim population.

Let’s fast-forward to nine years after a high-profile slaughter in Manhattan and survey our success in the stark light of hindsight. Are we more secure? Are we more prosperous? Are Americans facing a brighter future? Are our children proud of the outcome?

Israel has occupied Palestinian land for more than six decades. The September 13th issue of Time magazine captured the Israeli sentiment: “Why Israel Doesn’t Care About Peace.”

Israelis are too busy prospering to care. Outraged Muslims are a nuisance but they’re now largely marginalized and, for the most part, manageable. Is that what happened to us? Have Americans become Israelis?

Not long ago an internal poll of friendly foreign intelligence agencies ranked our best and worst allies—those who behave as friends to the U.S. versus those who are clearly foes. Israel ranked dead last as a reliable ally. Though their brazen theft of technical and industrial secrets is well known among those in the know, the broader U.S. public remains deceived or in denial.

Most Americans still see Israel as an ally. The facts confirm that’s a dangerous delusion.

Meanwhile Mossad agents are recruiting Arab-Americans to spy on their neighbors in the U.S. Though Tel Aviv is called on the carpet three times as often as other nations, Israel still ranks third in the aggressiveness of its U.S. operations, behind only China and Russia.

That ranking may well be out of date with Israel now first in foreign operations on U.S. soil.

Other Telling Signs

Zionist Jews deployed terror and intimidation to occupy Muslim lands long before Harry Truman was induced in 1948 to recognize an extremist enclave as a legitimate nation state. Disputes over land remain at the heart of the expansionist agenda for Greater Israel.

On September 7, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas asked that the U.S. settle a dispute over the Israeli expansion of settlements that threaten to derail Mideast peace talks. Those talks have dragged on since 1967. Settling those disputes would disrupt the Zionist agenda.

In a telling rebuke, on September 12th, Tel Aviv rejected a proposed visit to Israel by the foreign ministers of France, Spain, Britain, Germany and Italy. Why? These senior diplomats sought a remedy to that dispute in order to achieve a long-evasive peace.

Therein lies Israel’s strategic strength. Absent this sustained provocation (43 years and counting), hatred might subside and peace may become a possibility. That’s a danger Tel Aviv works hard to avoid.

September 12th also saw the release of a new report indicating that 2,066 new homes would be constructed in the West Bank as soon as the temporary freeze expires September 26th.

Meanwhile back in the U.S., Americans remain unaware of how many contracts for Homeland Security were awarded to Israeli firms or to firms owned by pro-Israelis. Nor do Americans realize how many Homeland Security outlays have been directed to Jewish community centers.

That’s all the more reason for Zionists—both Jewish and Christian—to create an uproar about an Islamic Community Center planned for construction two blocks from the 911 site in Manhattan.

And all the more reason for a Christian-Zionist preacher to designate the ninth anniversary of 911 as “International Burn a Koran Day” at his 50-member church.

The Koran gambit gained global attention, stoked by a media dominated by Jewish Zionists. High profile political personalities ensured that this hate-mongering stunt was kept in the forefront of international news coverage in the lead-up to the anniversary of modern history’s best-known hate-mongering provocation.

Foreclosures hit all-time high

The August surge to 1,629 places the state's rate of one filing per 315 households at 10th highest in the nation

CORRECTION

» The zip code for Lahaina on the second picture is incorrect. Lahaina's zip code is 96761.

So much for a decline in foreclosure activity in Hawaii.

After three months of what looked like subsiding levels of property foreclosure filings statewide, volume in August soared to a new high.

A report from real estate research firm RealtyTrac Inc. said there were 1,629 Hawaii foreclosure filings last month, which eclipsed the prior record of 1,534 in December and was almost twice as many as the 869 filings in August 2009.

The surge last month followed a 6 percent decline in July filings over the same month a year earlier. The July dip represented the first year-over-year decrease for any month since May 2007, before financial and real estate markets came unglued.

Year-over-year increases in May and June also were relatively small.

But local foreclosure attorneys suspected in recent months that the slack was perhaps due to lender processing issues, and wasn't a sign that fewer Hawaii homeowners were defaulting on their mortgages or losing their homes.

August's record appears to bear that out.

The number of foreclosure filings last month equated to one filing per 315 households.

Compared with other states, Hawaii's rate was 10th highest, which is the worst position Hawaii has occupied since RealtyTrac began its reports in 2005. Hawaii had the 10th-highest rate in December, as well.

Nevada had the highest rate at one filing per 84 households. Vermont had the lowest rate at one filing per 18,389 households.

Nationally, there was one foreclosure filing for every 381 households. There were 338,836 filings nationally in August, which was down 5.5 percent from the same month last year.

RealtyTrac noted that nearly a third of the filings, or 95,364, in August were lender repossessions. That was a record, and suggests that troubled properties are exiting foreclosure and alleviating a backlog. RealtyTrac said foreclosure starts nationally have been declining.

By county, Maui had the worst foreclosure rate, at one filing per 187 households, or 353 filings in all.

The Big Island had the next worst rate at one filing per 205 households, based on 389 total filings.

Kauai's rate was one filing per 342 households, based on 87 filings.

Honolulu had the most filings with 800, but it had the lowest rate, at one filing for every 421 households.

Aging gas pipe at risk of explosion nationwide

JASON DEAREN

Associated Press Writers= SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) — The tragic explosion of a gas pipeline in a San Francisco suburb has shed light on a problem usually kept underground: Communities have expanded over pipes built decades earlier when no one lived there.

Utilities have been under pressure for years to better inspect and replace aging gas pipes — many of them laid years before sprawling communities were erected around them — that now are at risk of leaking or erupting.

But the effort has fallen short. Critics say the regulatory system is ripe for problems because the government largely leaves it up to the companies to do inspections, and utilities are reluctant to spend the money necessary to properly fix and replace decrepit pipelines.

"If this was the FAA and air travel we were talking about, I wouldn't get on a plane," said Rick Kessler, a former congressional staffer specializing in pipeline safety issues who now works for the Pipeline Safety Trust, an advocacy group based in Bellingham, Wash.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the pipeline in San Bruno ruptured and ignited a gigantic fireball that torched one home after another in the neighborhood, killing at least four people. Pacific Gas & Electric Co., the pipeline's owner, said Monday it has set aside up to $100 million to help residents recover.

Experts say the California disaster epitomizes the risks that communities face with old gas lines. The pipe was more than 50 years old — right around the life expectancy for steel pipes. It was part of a transmission line that in one section had an "unacceptably high" risk of failure. And it was in a densely populated area.

The blast was the latest warning sign in a series of deadly infrastructure failures in recent years, including a bridge collapse in Minneapolis and a steam pipe explosion that tore open a Manhattan street in 2007. The steam pipe that ruptured was more than 80 years old.

The section of pipeline that ruptured was built in 1956, back when the neighborhood contained only a handful of homes. It is a scenario that National Transportation Safety Board vice chairman Christopher Hart has seen play out throughout the nation, as suburbs have expanded.

"That's an issue we're going to have to look on a bigger scale — situations in which pipes of some age were put in before the dense population arrived and now the dense population is right over the pipe," he said.

Thousands of pipelines nationwide fit the same bill, and they frequently experience mishaps. Federal officials have recorded 2,840 significant gas pipeline accidents since 1990, more than a third causing deaths and significant injuries.

Hart said the tragedy in San Bruno could push other states to begin tougher inspections of their lines.

"It would surprise me if other states didn't see this and learn from it and be proactive with it," Hart said.

Congress passed a law in 2002 that required utilities for the first time to inspect pipelines that run through heavily populated areas. In the first five years, more than 3,000 problems were identified — a figure Weimer said underscores the precarious pipeline system.

Even when inspections are done and problems found, Kessler said, there is no requirement for companies to say if or what kind of repairs were made. And Weimer added industry lobbyists have since pushed to relax that provision of the law so inspections could occur once a decade or once every 15 years.

Other critics complain that the pipeline plans are drafted in secret with little opportunity for the public to speak out about the process.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is the federal regulatory arm that enforces rules for the safe operation of the nation's pipeline system, and has direct authority over interstate pipelines. Most state public utility agencies have adopted the federal rules and carry out inspections and enforcement of pipelines running inside state boundaries.

But the system often relies on the pipeline operators like PG&E to survey their own gas lines and to decide which pipelines are high risk.

The American Gas Association disputes the notion that it cuts any corners and says the industry is subjected to stringent state and federal regulations.

"Safety is unequivocally the No. 1 priority for the natural gas transmission and distribution industry and always will be," spokesman Chris Hogan said. "The industry spends billions each year to ensure the safety and reliability of the natural gas infrastructure."

California regulators say current rules are written in a way that relies on industry to report problems and set timetables for repair.

"We're set up to provide an incentive and a deterrent and to make sure they follow the rules, but we generally avoid telling them how to run their system," said Julie Halligan, deputy director for consumer protection and safety at the California Public Utilities Commission. "They can't endlessly defer things and get away with it, because we'll be looking after the fact to see what they've done."

The challenge of ensuring pipeline safety is compounded by the sheer enormity of the nation's natural gas network. The federal pipeline agency says the U.S. has more than 2 million miles of pipelines — enough to circle the earth about 100 times.

The agency has only about 100 federal inspectors nationwide to ensure compliance, meaning there is no guarantee violators will be caught. "When you look at two-and-a-half million miles of pipeline with 100 inspectors, it's not reassuring," Weimer said. "To a grand degree the industry inspects and polices themselves."

Potential safety threats have grown as the pipeline network has expanded and age takes its toll on existing infrastructure. More than 60 percent of the nation's gas transmission lines are 40 years old or older.

Most of them are made of steel, with older varieties prone to corrosion. The more problematic pipes are made of cast-iron. A few places in Pennsylvania still had wooden gas pipes as of last year, according to officials there.

Pipelines in heavily populated locations like San Bruno fall into a category the industry refers to as "high consequence areas."

Those areas contain about 7 percent of the 300,000 miles of gas transmission lines in the country, or roughly 21,000 miles of pipeline. The category has nothing to do with the safety of pipelines, and was created to put the greatest emphasis on the most populous regions.

Industry watchdogs have criticized utilities for not being willing to spend the money necessary to avoid explosions like the one in California. The cost to replace lengthy stretches of pipelines can exceed $30 million.

"They (PG&E) will prioritize and put off work to maintain their level of earnings," said Bill Marcus, a California attorney whose firm consults nationally with consumer protection agencies and nonprofits on gas rate cases. "To some extent that's not bad, but it is concerning when those decisions endanger public health or the environment."

PG&E said it has spent more than $100 million to improve its gas system in recent years, and routinely surveys its 5,724 miles of transmission and 42,142 miles of distribution lines for leaks. The utility speeded up surveys of its distribution lines in 2008 and expects to have completed checks in December, it said.

PG&E President Chris Johns said the pipe that ruptured was inspected twice in the past year — once for corrosion and once for leaks — and the checks turned up no problems.

A section of pipe connected to the line that exploded was built in 1948, and flagged as a problem by PG&E in a memo. PG&E submitted paperwork to regulators that said the section was within "the top 100 highest risk line sections" in the utility's service territory, the document shows.

The fact that it's in an urbanized area that didn't exist when the pipe was built is emblematic of a bigger problem nationwide, experts say.

"People have been waiting for a while for this type of disaster to happen because of expanded construction near pipeline right of ways without adequate prevention," said Paul Blackburn, a public interest lawyer in Vermillion, S.D.

ETs want carbon taxes? New Book Claims ETs will save us from carbon dioxide

Retired NORAD Officer’s New Book Predicts a Tentative Worldwide UFO Display in October

PRWeb

A newly-published book by a retired NORAD officer predicts October 13, 2010 as the tentative date for a fleet of extraterrestrial vehicles to hover for hours over the earth’s principal cities. Author says the event to be the first in a series intended to avert a planetary catastrophe resulting from increasing levels of carbon-dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere dangerously approaching a “critical mass.”

A newly-published 352-page book by a retired Air Force officer, Stanley A. Fulham, tentatively predicts October 13, 2010 as the date for a massive UFO display over the world’s principal cities. According to the author, the aliens will neither land nor communicate on that date; they are aware from eons of experience with other planets in similar conditions their sudden intervention would cause fear and panic.

The book, Challenges of Change (3rd ed.), reports this event will be the initial interaction in a process leading to mankind’s acceptance of the alien reality and technologies for the removal of poisonous gases from the earth’s atmosphere in 2015, if not sooner.

The author draws upon his military experience with the UFO phenomenon dating back to WW2, and later, with NORAD and his subsequent life-long association with a senior NORAD intelligence officer who provided him a wealth of historical data relating to NORAD’s experience with the UFO/alien reality which has never been revealed to the public. In the military’s view, as conveyed to and understood by Fulham, the public is not yet ready to accept an alien reality.

China Will Allow Credit Default Swaps, As Long As They Are Not Naked

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2010/09/china-will-allow-credit-default-swaps.html

I have repeatedly argued that naked credit default swaps should be banned.

"Naked credit default swaps" is the term coined to describe the situation where the buyer is not the referenced entity.

The American government hasn't banned naked CDS. Instead, the government let the largest CDS traders write impotent laws which won't fundamentally change the ongoing danger from derivatives.

But the Chinese are being smarter.

As Bloomberg notes:

China will introduce credit-default swaps by the end of this year, according to Shi Wenchao, secretary general of the state-backed National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors.

Investors in the derivatives will be required to own the underlying risk, Shi said today in an interview with reporters in New York. China plans to limit the amount of leverage used in the contracts to avoid the kind of financial crisis faced in the U.S. two years ago, he said.

In other words, China will allow CDS, but will prohibit naked CDS.

Such a move shows - once again - that China is being much more realistic about the dangers of derivatives than the U.S. See this, this and this.

America's War On Islam

By Stephen Lendman

16 September, 2010

America prides itself on religious freedom, the Constitution's First Amendment stating:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

In fact, those rights are selectively enforced, and consistently denied at the whim of administrations, Congress and courts, including equal respect for all religions - more than ever post-9/11 under Bush and Obama, agents of privilege, not Constitutionally protected freedoms. A sad testimony to a rhetorical, not real democracy, Muslim Americans especially victimized, vilified, and persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, prominence, activism, and charity - innocent men and women bogusly called terrorists, used for political advantage.

More than any other ethnic/religious group, Western discourse especially wrongs and unfairly portrays Muslim/Arabs stereotypically as culturally inferior, dirty, lecherous, untrustworthy, religiously fanatical, and violent.

In his book, "Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People," Jack Shaheen explained how they've been defamed and used as fair game throughout decades of cinematic history (from silent films to recent ones) to foster prejudicial attitudes, and reinforce notions of Western values, high-mindedness, and moral superiority.

Worse still are slanderous media commentaries about dangerous gun-toting terrorists, vital for authorities to arrest and imprison, never mind the rule of law, right or wrong, or whether those accused are guilty or innocent. It's no surprise when new suspects are named, media reports automatically convicting them in the court of public opinion, poisoning it by stereotypical characterizations and baseless charges, invariably against Muslims, and by implication their faith.

No wonder politicians and extremist Christian fundamentalist ministers rage over Muslim "terrorists" and a proposed New York Islamic cultural center two blocks from Ground Zero, threatening a public 9/11 Koran burning in protest - cancelled, then suspended, now re-cancelled, so stay tuned, the outrageous media frenzy may encourage it ahead, as well as attacks around the country against mosques, perhaps with Muslims inside praying, authorities turning a blind eye about people they despise, pretending, like Obama, they care.

On 9/11/2010, he disingenuously said America's not "at war with Islam," while he wages it against at least six Muslim countries - Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia Yemen, and Palestine by supplying Israel with annual billions in aid and the latest weapons and technology. He also threatens or intimidates other countries, including Iran, Lebanon, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela and Cuba, even though none of them pose a regional or global threat.

In addition, Special Forces death squads (like Task Force 373), extrajudicially murder or capture suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda figures, many hundreds or perhaps thousands on a so-called Jpel (joint prioritized effects) list.

Further, drones and ground forces kill civilian men, women and children daily, falsely called "terrorists" or "insurgents," and Special Forces and CIA operatives operate lawlessly in 75 or more countries, warring covertly against anyone opposing US interests.

It's America's secret war, mostly against Muslims, including US citizens abroad, denied due process or judicial fairness. Just a bullet, bomb or slit throat, Obama's summary judgment, defiling the rule of law - counter-insurgency madness to cow people into submission, advancing permanent war and endless violence, breeding resentment and hatred throughout the Muslim world.

On 9/11, AP said, for the second straight day, thousands of Afghans in Kabul responded to anti-Muslim hatred, specifically the announced Koran burning. Despite cancelling it, the damage was done, crowds burning tires and shouting "Long live Islam, death to America." Earlier in the week, they heard fiery speeches from parliament members, provincial council deputies, and Islamic clerics, criticizing Washington and demanding foreign troops withdraw. Some also threw rocks at a passing US military convoy.

Protesters in front of western Kabul's Milad ul-Nabi mosque raised and flags with slogans calling for Obama's death, also a cardboard effigy of Dove World Outreach Center's pastor Terry Jones. All religious holy books are sacred, demanding the respect they deserve. Burning or desecrating them is morally wrong and profoundly offensive.

In 2005, Afghan riots killed 15 and injured dozens following stories about Guantanamo interrogators placing Korans in washrooms and flushing one down a toilet. Imagine the outrage in America if Muslims did it to Bibles or other Judeo-Christian scripture.

Against that backdrop, Obama's 9/11 address at the Pentagon (symbolic of America's war agenda) was an exercise in demagoguery and lies saying:

"We will not sacrifice the liberties we cherish or hunker down behind walls of suspicion and mistrust....The highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most. To stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose; to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are."

Fact check:

-- in 20 months as president, Obama continued what Bush began, stripping civil liberties, defiling human rights, waging imperial wars, increasing homeland repression, and targeting dissent and democratic freedoms;

-- at home and abroad, he's fostered hate, loathing, and mistrust throughout the entire Muslim world;

-- "those (9/11 victims) we lost" were by our hands, not "crazed Arabs" from an Afghanistan cave directing their American operatives;

-- "true to who we are? our sense of common purpose? the character of our country?" In fact, a cavernous divide separates most Americans from our criminal ruling cabal. Obama is its titular head allied with corporate predators, exploiting human resources and strip mining the world for profits, allied with out-of-control militarists, destroying it for power and privilege;

-- "some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent?" America's marauding armies wage ruthless wars on planet earth, slaughtering millions on every continent;

-- "distort who we are?" The above account explains it, unmasking Obama's demagoguery.

Saying "We champion the rights of every American (to) worship as one chooses," Obama omitted the New York cultural center or announced Koran burning, now cancelled, showing his contempt for Islam, his words notwithstanding, disingenuous rhetoric like everything he says, what everyone needs to know, what too few understand, still thinking he's different. He's not, and in many respects he's worse than his predecessor.

Justifying America's imperial wars and homeland repression requires enemies, Muslims the target of choice, vilified for their faith, "terrorists" or "Islamofascists" because we say so. It's reminiscent of the false late 1990s accusations against Nation of Islam National Representative Louis Farrakhan, saying he called the Pope "the anti-Christ" and Judaism a "gutter religion."

He strongly rebutted the assertions, what Washington can't do about Islam, calling it a "religion of war," when, in fact, it promotes love, not hate; peace, not violence; good over evil; charity, not exploitation; and a just and fair society for people of all faiths.

America's Judeo-Christian "war on terror" disdains these beliefs, vilifying people for their faith, slaughtering and torturing them abroad, conducting a modern day Inquisition at home, a lawless holy crusade, based on lies, deceit, and managed news. Regular state propaganda over the airwaves preaches hate for global conquest, masquerading as democracy, the kind Washington won't tolerate anywhere, including at home.

A Final Comment

Washington's one-sided Israeli support underscores its disdain for Islam. Obama accentuated it by telling Netanyahu that "The bond between the United States and Israel is unbreakable," assuring him of America's "deep, abiding interest in Israel's security," a message Palestinians and world Muslims know means no interest in theirs.

Worse still, he endorsed Cast Lead and Gaza's siege, mercilessly and illegally suffocating 1.5 million people posing no threat whatever. Hamas is targeted for its independence, not militancy, what he and Western media won't explain.

The latest round of peace talks continue, as bogus as others, on and off for the past 35 years, resolving nothing but empowering Israel at the expense of Occupied Palestinians. The only possible outcome this time is like before - total failure or unconditional capitulation, nothing in between, because Washington and Israel won't tolerate a just, equitable agreement.

Obama also rejects Hamas as Palestine's legitimate government as well its right to self-defense. Under occupation, it's essential against a nuclear-armed marauder, a rogue state, a military powerhouse aggressor believing violence is the only language Arabs understand. No wonder growing millions globally see Israel for what it is - a regional and world menace complicit with its Washington paymaster/partner.
